While browsing through Reddit, I found this article. Here is the caption, “Parent calls cops on teen for giving books away at a book giveaway”. Now, if that doesn’t tell you everything you need to know, let me help.
Her name is Brady Kissel and the book she was passing out was titled The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. The book was recently banned by the local school district for using the phrase metaphorical boner and for making some criticisms against Christians.
Now, as a Christian, I find this offensive. Not that such a book was written, but that it was banned in the first place. I have long believed that Christians have a responsibility to politely and reasonably interact with people who criticize our faith. Not call the cops and ban people from giving books away. This is the United States of America, where the free and brave are supposed to be free and, well brave.
I’m glad to say the police decided against arresting this teenager and banning the free distribution of books. What worries me is that someone called the police to try and shut up this student. What are we trying to teach our children? That it’s OK to try and make the police bully people we disagree with?
I hope and pray that miss Kissel keeps up the great work and continues to stand for the free exchange of ideas.
